Ana stood infront of me, arms sternly crossed. She kicked her heels off to the side and her bare feet touched the cold tiles beneath her. It didn’t seem to phase her, instead all her attention was completely focussed on me.

The apartment was more modern inside than I had expected. She had obviously renovated recently, which made me realise she had probably done very well for herself since I'd been gone. I felt proud of her. My Ana. My girl.

But she wasn’t my girl anymore, and she hadn’t been for a long time. She’d become cold and bitter, strong and independent, and she had left me behind. She seemed older and more mature, although she had always seemed wise beyond her age. I had not kept up the pace quite so well, and the tables were turned and it was I who needed someone.

Her eyes were cold and tired. Her life organised and controlled, and that fire in her smile looked like it hadn’t shown itself for a very long time. I began to notice my own appearance, the disorganised and scruffy clothes, my unshaven face. I looked rough and untidy, and realised I hadn’t exactly thought about how I was going to sell myself to her.

‘I must have lost my mind when I let you go.’ There was nothing more to say. Over the past year everything had felt fruitless. I worked my ass off, yet I couldn’t manage to get close to anyone. In an entire year I don’t think I’d made a single new friend. I was still as alone as when I had left for Sydney, and I’d realised why I had fallen for Ana. She was my best friend, and I’d fallen in love with her and tested her in ways she couldn’t win, just so I could feel better about leaving her behind and reaping the rewards of an unmissable opportunity. It proved not to be worth it in the end. I had missed Brisbane. I had missed her.

‘You didn’t let me go, you couldn’t get away fast enough.’
‘I know.’
‘You’re a selfish bastard you know that?’
‘I know.’
‘Do you? You weren’t there to help pick up the pieces this time? I needed you. Don’t act like you give a shit, because if you did you wouldn’t have left.’
‘That isn’t true, I’m here now.’
‘It’s been a year, Declan.’
‘I know.’

Situation hopeless, there would be no reconcilliation tonight. I hung my head in shame and offered her a feeble apology. Perhaps tomorrow she would forgive me, I could only hope. This was the destiny I had painted for myself when I'd left her and those suicidal dreams.

 It's a weird-ass picture, I know. I somehow really like it though, don't know why, it's just really ... strangely interesting? Who knows, but I hope you like it. The writing is very unpolished, it's not even spell-checked (or grammar for that matter) so be kind.

Tell Ana to kick that looser to the curb!! lol.

Good story Em, and yes this is an interesting design. I love the creative things you add in like the cut on the razorblade and the little dots on the tips of the feather.

"Whoops" is a word that should never be said by some professions - Pilots, Racing car drivers, and hair colourists come immediately to mind but Dentists also have to be up in the top five .

Flying is simple, just throw yourself at the ground, and miss

:giggle: Glad you enjoyed it ... I don't know what makes me do the little things (like the dots on the tips of the feather) ... just something inside me says "do this" and I do it. lol. ~E.
